News18 has exclusively learnt that the Gangubai Kathiawadi director is reviving his most ambitious project Inshallah.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently busy in the post-production of one of the most awaited projects Heeramandi which will soon be released on Netflix. While there are several rumours about his next directorial, News18 has exclusively learnt that the Gangubai Kathiawadi director is reviving his most ambitious project Inshallah which is expected to go on floors by June this year.
A source reveals, “There have been several speculations about Bhansali’s next including Baiju Bawra and another Pan Indian multi-starrer film, but the director has no such plans and has already started working again on Inshallah. The filmmaker has already started the initial preparations and is planning to announce it officially by March. Bhansali plans to start shooting for the film as early as June.”
The source also confirms that the Padmaavat director is in advanced talks with his Devdas actor Shah Rukh Khan, “While several reports state that Shah Rukh Khan has politely declined the film, it isn’t true. SRK has had multiple meetings with Bhansali for Inshallah and in all likelihood who will be greenlighting the film. It’s a mature love story, something that goes with Shah Rukh’s personality. SRK has also expressed interest in the project, although he hasn’t made up his mind about being a part of it.”
For the unversed, fans were excited when the official announcement of Inshallah was made. The movie was supposed to feature Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. The pre-production work was completely done and even a set was erected in Filmcity, Mumbai. But days before taking the film on floors, Bhansali’s production house SLB Film had made an official announcement that the film was no longer happening. Reports suggested that owing to creative differences, Bhansali and Khan had a huge showdown which resulted in the movie being shelved.
Interior Designer Rubin Suchak who had worked on Inshallah in an interview had exclusively told News18, “Fortunately or unfortunately, the film didn’t make it to floors because of a showdown that happened, and Salman walked away from the sets. Salman and Bhansali didn’t want to do the film together. I spent a year pre-planning the set with Bhansali. We were in the USA for about three months scouting the location.”
