Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t famous yet when he got a role in Baazigar. In a recent interview, Johnny Lever, who was also in the movie, remembered working with Shah Rukh in the 1990s. Lever said he was more well-known than Shah Rukh during the shooting of Baazigar. He also talked about a time during Kuch Kuch Hota Hai filming when a lady almost fainted seeing Shah Rukh play basketball.
Talking about Baazigar, Johnny told YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia that they started working together in Baazigar in 1991 and Shah Rukh had done Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and some other films by then. “I was more famous than him at that time. Even during the shoot, more people knew me. I was a star back then, Shah Rukh was upcoming. We had great understanding.” Johnny then added, “I have never seen anyone as hardworking as him, so hardworking,” he said.
In the past, Lever said that Shah Rukh wasn’t great at action or dancing, but he worked hard to get better. “Shah Rukh Khan was not good at fight sequences, he was not good at dance also,” he said, adding, “He made himself what he is by working hard. He became good at fights and dance.”
Johnny Lever remembered that Shah Rukh had a magnetic personality, and women went crazy for him. He noticed during the premiere of Yes Boss in London that women were swooning over Shah Rukh, while their partners felt jealous. “Men were jealous of him, they would throw things at him because their partners were in love with Shah Rukh. But he was completely focused on his work,” he said.
Johnny said that during the Badshah shoot, pretty women played air hostesses and only wanted a photo with Shah Rukh, but he was busy working. “Shah Rukh was rehearsing something. Those women asked for a photo. I asked him to take a photo with them. He went, clicked a picture and was focused on his rehearsal again,” he remembered. Johnny also shared that when his friend’s sister came to visit him on the set of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, she was so smitten by SRK that she almost fainted.
