Shaan condemns attack on Sonu Nigam
Shaan termed the selfie incident as ‘appalling’ and requested the authorities to take appropriate action.
Music composer Sonu Nigam was attacked by a man for taking a selfie after his performance at an event in Mumbai on Monday night. During the scuffle, the singer’s bodyguard and a member of his team sustained injuries, and footage of the encounter is being criticized online. The accused is reportedly the son of an MLA named Swapnil Futterpekar. Now, singer Shaan has termed the incident over a selfie as ‘appalling’ and urged the authorities to take appropriate action so that such encounters do not happen in future.
Sharing the statement of the Indian Singers Rights Association, Shaan expressed “disgust” and shock that the incident took place in a safe city like Mumbai. Shaan urged the authorities to take strict action against the culprit. Has happened.. and in Mumbai? A city known for its law and order, and security. As a fellow artist, a fan and part of the fraternity I do hope that some action is taken by the authorities against the miscreants responsible for this rowdy misconduct and violence,” he wrote.
Viral footage of the scuffle showed Sonu Nigam walking down the stage with some of his team members when a man pushed them from behind. The musician falters and only then his bodyguard intervenes to calm the situation. The bodyguard and another member of his team are again pushed by the man, and one of them can be seen falling off the stage. The bodyguard and team member who had accompanied the corporator’s colleague reportedly sustained injuries during the attack and were later taken to a hospital.
After the incident, Sonu Nigam filed an official police complaint against the accused. According to ANI, the case has been registered under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 337 (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) as per the singer’s complaint Has been recorded. During an interaction with the news agency, the musician informed that he filed a police complaint to demonstrate that such unruly acts while asking for selfies and autographs would have serious consequences.
