The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday claimed that the NCERT has misrepresented historical details related to Sikhs in the Class 12 Political Science course book.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday claimed that the NCERT has misrepresented historical details related to Sikhs in the Class 12 Political Science course book.

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said in a statement that the National Council of Educational Research and Training has recorded “misleading information” about the Anandpur Sahib proposal in chapter 8 titled Regional Aspirations of its book ‘Politics in India Since Independence’ . The sentiments of the community have been hurt.

Explaining the resolution of 1973, he said that it talks about state rights and strengthening the federal structure. Dhami said, “It is not at all fair to portray Sikhs as separatists, so the NCERT should remove such highly objectionable references.”

“The Class 12 syllabus has taken a communal angle by deleting some old information and adding some new information,” he claimed.

He said, ‘It is sad that changes are being made to suit the present central government. Curriculum specially for minorities is being abolished and arbitrary curriculum is being made. Accordingly, the Anandpur Sahib resolution has been misinterpreted in the book ‘Politics in India since Independence’,” claimed Dhami.

The SGPC chief said the Anandpur Sahib resolution is a historical document in which there is nothing wrong.
