Seven people have died of viral fever in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district so far in September, a senior official said on Sunday. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Arun Kumar Srivastava also rubbished reports of two deaths due to dengue in Fatehpur Sikri.

Speaking to PTI, Srivastava said that so far this month, seven people have been confirmed dead due to viral fever in Agra. He said that a 14-year-old boy died in Chachiha village on Sunday morning while two siblings died in Rasulpur village of Fatehpur Sikri on Saturday evening.

Two deaths were reported from Giriraj Dham Colony under Itimad-ud-Daula police station area and one death was reported from Nuhai area on Thursday. One person died in Khadia village of Khandoli. The CMO claimed, “The special thing about this fever is that we are getting very less time for treatment and people are dying fast.”

Srivastava dismissed reports that claimed dengue was the cause of the two deaths from Rasulpur and said that the children died due to viral fever. The CMO said that so far this year, 61 dengue cases have been reported in Agra. While 41 patients have been cured, 20 are undergoing treatment in government hospitals.

He appealed to the people to immediately go to a government hospital or community health center if they experience symptoms like high fever, vomiting and dizziness. On the steps being taken by the administration to prevent dengue, Srivastava said that the health department is organizing awareness and medical camps in villages and cities and fogging is being done.

He said that the water accumulated in villages and other areas is being cleaned. The official also urged people not to allow water to stagnate in or around their homes and suggested that they cover themselves completely when they step out.
