Sensex today: Sensex rose 226 points at the level of fresh close; Nifty closes above 15,850 – Times of India

New Delhi: Equity indices hit record highs on Friday along with benchmark BSE Sensex Gains in banking, metals and financial stocks led the gains by over 200 points.
The 30-share BSE index closed at a fresh high of 52,925, up 226 points or 0.43 per cent; While the broader NSE Nifty closed 73 points or 0.46 per cent higher at 15,863.
Tata Steel, Axis Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and Maruti were the top gainers in the Sensex pack, up 4.68 per cent.
While Reliance, HUL, NTPC, Titan, Asian Paints and Bajaj Auto fell up to 2.23 per cent.
Sub-indices of Nifty Metal, Bank, PSU Bank and Financial Services rose up to 2.71 per cent on the NSE platform.
“Overall, the markets have performed quite well and in the second quarter. India is the best performing market in the Asia region,” Amit Shah, head of India Equity Research at BNP Paribas, told Reuters news agency.
He added that investors are now waiting for some new data points, and in the meantime, the market will see sector rotation and individual stock-picking.
Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they sold shares worth Rs 2,890.94 crore on Thursday, according to provisional exchange data.
