Binod Modi, Head Strategy, Reliance Securities, said, “Domestic benchmark indices gained today, while midcap and smallcap stocks remained under pressure.”
Financial services supported the Nifty after a strong rebound in metals. Additionally, a sharp recovery in Reliance Industries following media reports that the $25 billion Aramco deal is at an advanced stage has also supported the benchmark index.
Besides, strong June quarter performance by metal companies and stable pricing in international markets led to a sharp jump in metal stocks, Modi said.
Elsewhere in Asia, shares in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul ended with losses, while Shanghai was positive.
Equities in Europe were also trading on a negative note in mid-session deals.
Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 1.33 per cent to $69.65 per barrel.
