2013 Tesla Model S owner sets up his car for a blast

New Delhi:

Automobile giant Tesla is at the forefront of the EV sector with innovation and new technology. But that wasn’t enough to stop a disgruntled customer from blowing up his Tesla car using 30kg of dynamite.

Jala, an idyllic and snow-capped village in south Finland’s Kimenlakoso region, witnessed a bizarre incident with only a few thousand people when the owner of a 2013 Tesla Model S set his car up for a blast.

The crew of a YouTube channel – Pommijatkat – shot the entire episode, which premiered today with the help of a few volunteers.

Tesla was blown up in an abandoned mine

The video opens with views of Finland’s picturesque countryside with vast snow-capped expanses, very few houses and trees. A voiceover tells about life in this country and its difficulties. “From time to time, things just go wrong, sh*t hits the fan. Then it’s time for the Finnish to step on the lead,” it says, talking about what’s to come next—a huge explosion.

“Pommijatkat’s mission this time is to blast the 2013 Tesla Model S,” voiceover announced before the car’s owner – Tumas Katanen – reveals why.

“When I bought that Tesla, the first 1,500km were good. It was an excellent car. Then the error codes hit. So I ordered the tow truck to take my car to the service station. Car was on for about a month. Thi dealer’s workshop and I finally got a call saying they can’t do anything for my car. The only option is to replace the entire battery cell,” says the owner with his white Tesla in the background.

“It will cost me at least 20,000 euros.”

The blast was no easy task

“So, I told them I was coming to get my car. And now I’ll blow up the whole car because apparently there was no guarantee or anything,” he explains.

The explosion was no easy task. Dynamite sticks were installed on one side of the car to direct the explosion in one direction and ensure that the pieces hit a rock wall behind the car. A circuit of fuses was made.

“Feels great right now,” said the car owner

This video shows a montage of the kind of effort that went into preparing Tesla for this massive explosion.

Suddenly, a helicopter is seen taking off and toppling an effigy of Tesla CEO Elon Musk – with a helmet on. “Well, Elon Musk called us yesterday and said he really wants to ride with that Tesla,” jokes the stuntman of the YouTube channel.

The effigy is then tucked into the Tesla driver’s seat and it’s time to explode.

The crew, accompanied by the car’s owner, go inside a bunker ready to press a button. “Any ideas now?” They ask Mr. Catanon. “Feels great right now. Can’t wait to explode,” he says. The car is blown up on the count of three.

The video, which garnered over 2.23 lakh views in a matter of hours, also shows the explosion and burn parts of the high-end car from different angles in slow motion. The crew and owner then collect the debris, depositing them in heaps. “There’s nothing left. Absolutely nothing,” Mr. Catanon says into the camera, “I’ve never had so much fun with Tesla! And also, I’m probably the first person in the world to detonate a Tesla. So Maybe, made some history.”
