Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of 11 development projects and inaugurate seven projects during his Uttarakhand visit today. The cost of these projects is around Rs 18,000 crore.

The 11 projects whose foundation stone will be laid include the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor (Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction to Dehradun). It will be built at a cost of about Rs 8,300 crore. It will reduce the distance from Delhi to Dehradun and reduce the travel time from six hours to about 2.5 hours. It will have 7 major interchanges for connectivity to Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Yamunanagar, Baghpat, Meerut and Baraut.

The entire length of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor from Akshardham (starting point) to Dehradun will be divided into four sections:

section 1
Section 1 is being developed in 6 lane with 6L service road. It is divided into 2 packages. Package 1 Delhi portion will be of 14.75 kms. Out of this, 6.4 km is elevated. Package 2 will be of Uttar Pradesh portion 16.85 kms. Out of this, 11.2 km is elevated. This section will start from Akshardham Temple near Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and will pass through Geeta Colony, Khajurikhas, Mandola etc.

section 2
It passes through the districts of Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready. The process of land acquisition is still going on.

section 3
It will start from Saharanpur bypass and end at Ganeshpur. The entire length has recently been completed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in 4 lanes. Underpasses and service roads are being planned to achieve a minimum speed of 100 km/h.

Section 4
The six-lane section mainly passes through a reserve forest in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Out of 20 km, 5 km is brownfield expansion and 15 km is realignment which includes elevated wildlife corridor (12 km) and a tunnel (structure 340 m). Right-of-way (ROW) is limited to 25 meters due to wildlife concerns. All forest and wildlife clearances have been taken for this section.
