Gaya: State government has decided to increase security at Mahabodhi Monastery:, a World Heritage Site for the protection of tourists and devotees. Bihar Military Police (BMP) personnel posted at the shrine will be given similar training Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. bmp The soldiers will be deputed within a radius of two kilometers of the Mahavihar.
The security of the monastery has been increased after the serial bomb blasts in Bodh Gaya on 7 July 2013. Access is prohibited with any electronic gadget.
Every nook and corner of the shrine complex has been covered with night vision high resolution closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs). The existing 90 CCTVs will also be upgraded. The decisions were taken after a two-day security review of the monastery by Special Branch Additional Director General (ADG) Bachchu. Singh Meena on Thursday and Friday.
Within a week, a blueprint for the security arrangements will be prepared. Intelligence officers, BMP and district police personnel will keep an extra vigil for the movement of vehicles in the no-entry zone around the Mahavihar.
Gaya SSP Aditya Kumar said that the ADG reviewed the compliance of earlier decisions regarding security in the Mahavihar. “Some decisions have been taken to further strengthen the security. The CCTVs installed in the campus are 4 to 5 years old. Hence, the CCTV will be upgraded with the latest technology. Two new baggage scanners will be installed near the gate of Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee office in addition to the two scanners already installed,” he said.
