After the announcement of strike by the Central Government on 16 and 17 December in protest against the privatization of public sector banks, the effect of the nationwide strike of the employees of the Government Bank was seen for the second day today. In Rohtak, all government bank employees took to the streets in protest against privatization and raised slogans against the central government. Nine bank unions under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions are involved in the strike. Bank employees and officers are on strike for two days. Bank union leaders warned the government that privatization of banks would not be allowed under any circumstances. This is a two-day strike, if the government does not take back the decision of privatization of banks, then the bank employees will go on strike indefinitely.

All types of bank services affected
Bankers’ strike has affected all banking services from cash withdrawal to deposits, business transactions, loan processing, check clearing, account opening and business transactions. In the Union Budget presented in February 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the privatization of two public sector banks (PSBs) as part of her disinvestment plan. For privatization, the government has listed the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 for introduction and passing during the current session of Parliament.

The farmers’ movement showed the mirror to the government
State President of United Forum of Bank Unions Rajesh Kumar said that the government is giving banks to private hands. Whereas banks have been working for all government schemes. Despite being in profit, the bank wants to privatize. This government has nothing to do with the concern of the common people. The farmers’ movement of the country has shown the mirror to the government.
