Sealdah metro station 1.5 times bigger than Phool Bagan station will be inaugurated on Monday

There is good news for Kolkata Metro commuters. Finally Sealdah metro station is ready to serve the people. Metro officials confirmed that July 11 is the inaugural day of Sealdah underground metro station.

The East-West Metro, which was launched in phases in March 2020, now covers a distance of 6.6 km from Sector V to Phulbagan with six stations. On 24 March, the seventh station, Sealdah, and an additional 2.3 km was approved by the CRS. Due to non-operation, Metro got CRS permission for the second time in the last week of July.

A senior official of Metro Eklavya Chakraborty says that the Sealdah metro station is expected to attract 45,000 passengers. Also, Sealdah Metro Station is set to boost the operational ratio of Kolkata Metro.

The three-tier Sealdah Metro Station is the seventh stop of the East-West Metro from the end of Salt Lake. The 2.3-km stretch of the upcoming Sealdah Metro station had reportedly received significant security clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) in March this year. The metro station has an interchange facility for passengers to access Eastern Railway train services.

The station has eight stairs, 18 escalators, five lifts and four platforms.

Travelers can cover a distance of 10 kms from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah in 20 minutes. The base fare of this metro station is just Rs 10.

Significantly, Sealdah metro station is 1.5 times bigger than Phool Bagan metro station. The metro station has an island platform. This will help the passengers to enter and exit the metro coach.
