Scuffle Breaks Out Between Two Groups In Delhi’s Tihar Jail, Two Inmates Injured

New Delhi: Another scuffle broke out between two groups in Central Jail No. 1 of Delhi’s high-security Tihar Jail, in which two inmates were injured. According to jail officials, a prisoner named Alok attacked Rahul with a country-made knife and rag. The incident took place on Monday at around 12.40 pm, the official said. The official further said that members of both the groups engaged in the scuffle have sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Hospital.

“In Central Jail No. 1, Tihar (Ward No. 02), some inmates attacked Rahul alias Pawan with improvised knife, hand-made awl and tile, causing injuries to the inmate. The assailants included Alok alias Vishal has attacked. Self-injury after the incident. Jail staff, TSP and Quick Response Team intervened and the inmates involved in the incident were immediately isolated,” the jail official said in a statement.

After registering an FIR in the matter, Hari Nagar police station has been informed for further legal action. Further action is being taken. Earlier, a similar incident took place in Tihar Jail on May 2 when members of two gangs had a scuffle, resulting in the death of dreaded gangster Tillu Tajpuria inside the jail.

Even before the attack on Tillu Tajpuria in Tihar, many questions were being raised about the security of the jail. In April this year also, Prince Tewatia, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was killed in a gang war inside Tihar Jail.

Locked in Jail No. 3, Tewatia was stabbed five to seven times before succumbing to his injuries at Delhi’s Deen Dayal Hospital. Earlier, another undertrial in Tihar Jail named Dilsher Azad, who was lodged in Delhi Jail since September 2019, was attacked and killed by three other undertrials in November 2020 using a sharp object.
