NOIDA: Several city schools that reopened for classes 9 to 12 on Monday after a gap of more than four weeks saw a low turnover of around 25-30% even as private schools are yet to resume physical classes.
Physical classes across Gautam Budh Nagar was suspended after the state government, on January 5, announced the closure of schools and other educational institutions from January 6 to 23 in districts recording more than 1,000 active coronavirus infections. It was later extended to January 30 and further till February 6 and schools were asked to conduct online classes.
On Saturday, the state government allowed all schools to resume physical classes for 8th to 12th standard, Dharamveer Singh, the district inspector of schools, said. Students up to class 8, however, have been allowed to continue with offline classes.
Neeraj Awasthy, principal of Sector 12’s Modern School, told TOI offline classes have resumed in two shifts — 8 am to 11 am and from 11.30 am to 3 pm for all classes. “We are expecting the attendance to pick up in coming days,” he said. According to district officials, the attendance is expected to pick up post-February 10 that is after the first phase of the state assembly elections when the three constituencies in the district will cast the ballot.
There are 152 secondary schools of the district attached to the UP Board while 215 private schools come under the CBSE and ISC boards. Most private schools, however, are yet to start offline classes and cited the upcoming board examination and continuing vaccination of teens as reasons for the delay.

“It will begin from February 14 for the junior wing and from February 21 for senior students,” the spokesperson Told TOI.
