Scale Committee: Government expands Scale Committee, appoints 3 new members – Times of India

New Delhi: The government has expanded its scale committee According to an industry insider, by adding three new members coming from diverse industry backgrounds (steering committee to advance local value-added and exports).
The new appointees are the President and CEO of Panasonic India Manish Sharma, toyota kirloskar Vice President Vikram S Kirloskar, and Asian Paints Co-Promoter and President Addverb Technologies Jalaj Dani, he said.
Currently, the 14-member Steering Committee for Advancing Local Value-Added and Exports (SCALE) committee is headed by Pawan Goenka, former CEO of Mahindra.
Also, Invest India CEO Deepak Bagla, Salil Singhal, CMD, PI Industries, and Sahashagiri Rao, CFO, JSW Steel Group, are on the board of the SCALE committee.
It is represented by industry bodies like FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM and officials from commerce and other ministries.
The SCALE committee constituted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is working closely with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the guidance of the Ministry.
This has facilitated the development of two dozen working groups to address specific issues to accelerate local manufacturing. Each working group includes representatives from at least six-seven companies from a manufacturing segment as well as liaison with their respective ministries to effectively address the challenges.
The SCALE committee has given impetus to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which is an enabling environment for domestic manufacturing capacity in the country.
The government has allocated Rs 1.97 lakh crore to 13 key sectors in the Union Budget 2021-22, which will pave the way for a game-changing shift towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Through the PLI scheme, the minimum additional production in India over the next five years is expected to be around Rs 37.5 lakh crore in sectors such as white goods (AC & LED), auto components, pharmaceuticals drugs, specialty steel and telecommunications and other sectors. networking products, among others.
