SC stays Kerala government’s decision to conduct physical XI exam amid rising Covid cases

Kerala school reopening: The Supreme Court of India on Friday granted an interim stay on the Kerala government’s decision to conduct the Class 11 exams in physical mode. The decision has been taken in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the state. Kerala class 11th exams were scheduled to begin from September 6, 2021.

The top court further said that the situation in Kerala is worrying as there is a steady rise in the cases of coronavirus and the students cannot be put at risk as around 35,000 cases are being reported from the state daily.

The next hearing on the issue is to be held on September 13, 2021.

Recently, Kerala Education Minister V. Shivankutty announced that the state government has decided to increase the seats for class 11 in government and aided higher secondary schools. The seats will be increased in seven districts spread across the state.

After releasing the revised schedule of 11th class examination, the minister had said that the decision to conduct the 11th examination in between was taken on the demand of students, teachers, parents, legislators etc.
