SC issues notice to CBI, ED on bail plea of ​​actor Mohd Naseer in Ponzi schemes cases

The Supreme Court on Monday sought response of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea seeking bail of actor Mohammad Naseer in criminal cases related to alleged fraud and misappropriation of funds in the name of Ponzi schemes. Blind actor Naseer, who starred in the 2009 Bollywood Hindi film – ‘The Shadow, the Dark Side of Truth’, has been in jail since 2019 in connection with the cases registered by the CBI and the ED.

A vacation bench of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Vikram Nath sought response from the investigating agencies within three weeks after senior advocate Siddharth Bhatnagar appeared on behalf of the jailed actor, said the Orissa High Court, who granted bail on June 12, 2020. The order on the petition was reserved. , it was yet to be delivered.

The actor was arrested on 20 July 2009 and granted bail on the same day.

However, the actor was taken into custody in 2019 and has been in jail since then, following the filing of a charge sheet by the CBI, which was entrusted with investigation by the High Court in 2012.

His lawyer said that the order on the bail application is awaited in the High Court.
