Save Soil Andolan: Sadhguru reaches India after covering 26 countries on motorbike alone

In which country did Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, set foot after passing through the freezing cold of Europe and the furnace of the Arabian desert? India #JourneyForSoil landing at Jamnagar port in Gujarat on Sunday after a grand success in Europe, Central Asia & Middle East.

Sadhguru sailed for three days in the Indian Ocean after departing Oman’s Port Sultan Qaboos to reach India’s west coast on Sunday evening.

He was accorded a warm welcome by the Indian Navy as his band played the anthem Bachao Mitti. Capturing the essence of the movement, the crowd raised slogans of ‘Dharti ki pukar, Dharti ki lalkar, Dharti ki roar, Mitti bachao pad lagao’ while Sadhguru planted a sapling, marking the beginning of the journey for soil in India. .

Amidst drumbeats, lively folk performances and high-voltage slogans from thousands of states, Sadhguru addressed the crowd, asking them to keep up the pace of saving soil.

“At least for the next 30 days you should keep your voice up, not shout for a day. Continue the message for 15-20 minutes a day continuously till we hear that every government of the world makes a policy to revive the soil.

Reiterating that we all have a powerhouse in the form of a phone in our hands, he urged everyone to use social media to speak about soil. “When you have this kind of power, we must do it”

Jamsaheb, Jamnagar representative Ektaba Sodha, joined the commanding officers of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force besides religious and political leaders to receive Sadhguru at the port.

He said that it is a matter of pride and privilege for him to be a part of this historic event. “He is influencing policy change, he is educating, he is creating awareness about saving soil, and it is very important to know that today is the second time in the history of Jamnagar, that at the invitation of the royal family. A civilian is approaching the cargo port with a special notification.”

Sadhguru lauded the performing artists while riding on the motorcycle that accompanied him on the tugboat.

Sadhguru is currently on 100 days, 30,000 km #JourneyForSoil after launching a global movement to save soil from extinction this March. His journey began in London on 21 March and will end in the Cauvery river basin at the end of June.

Then he joined the now familiar task: unveiling his motorcycle. Sadhguru acknowledged their roar before marching through the harbor behind a serpentine line-up of hundreds of Save Soil volunteers to the Navy Gate, where the Navy Band paid a musical tribute in the presence of the Commanding Officer and senior Naval officers. With heartfelt thanks, Sadhguru left the port to continue his journey in India.

save soil movement

The primary objective of Save Soil Andolan is to urge all the countries of the world to mandate minimum 3-6% organic content in agricultural soil through immediate policy reforms. Without this minimal organic material, soil scientists have warned of imminent soil death, a phenomenon they are calling ‘soil extinction’.

In India, the average organic content in agricultural soils is estimated to be 0.68%, putting the country at high risk of desertification and soil extinction. About 30% of the fertile soils in the country have already become barren and unable to yield. It is estimated that around 25% of fertile land globally has become desertified. The United Nations has warned that at current rates of soil erosion, 90% of the Earth could turn into a desert by 2050—less than three decades from now.

Soil extinction could lead to unprecedented ecological, economic and social devastation around the world. These include rapid climate change, global food and water shortages, brutal civil strife and migrant migration across continents threatening the security and cultural fabric of every nation.

Save Soil Movement is supported by United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), UN World Food Program, and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Ever since Sadhguru started his journey 68 days ago, 74 countries across the world have pledged to take concrete action to save the soil in their countries.
