Sasikala Jole: Lone woman minister in Karnataka cabinet gives ‘zero traffic’ from airport to Raj Bhavan for swearing-in

Shashikala Jole, the lone woman minister in Karnataka’s new cabinet, was seen running for Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru, half an hour after her flight from Delhi, and was given zero traffic from the airport, for her swearing-in.

Lingayat Jole is among 29 ministers who took oath at the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet of the state.

Basavaraj Bommai, who was elected as the new leader of the BJP legislature party last week following Yeddyurappa’s resignation, was sworn in as chief minister on July 28. Bommai went to Delhi twice after taking oath as the Chief Minister.

There are about six to eight new faces in his new cabinet, who are loyal to the party and do not belong to any faction.

Jole was inducted as a cabinet minister in the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in 2019. She is a member of the Legislative Assembly from Nippani constituency.

Sasikala was elected to the 14th Karnataka Legislative Assembly in the 2013 election from Nippani constituency with 81,860 votes, and was re-elected from Nippani with 87,006 votes in the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He defeated Kaka Sao Patil of Congress Party and Ishwar Kamath of BSP.

The cabinet comprises members from the SC and OBC communities, with prominent representation from various communities. The most important feature in the expansion is the exclusion of Yeddyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra from the cabinet.

It was widely rumored that he would join the cabinet with a stellar portfolio. But the high command seems to have vetoed Bommai, who was keen to give a berth to his guru Yediyurappa’s son for the smooth running of the government.

According to insiders, Yediyurappa was firm that his son would join the cabinet. But, it seems he lost his clout in the party when he was forced to step down a week later.
