New Delhi: Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar | said on Wednesday that he had resigned from the party central cabinet before the scheduled time cabinet shuffle

Gangwar, who held the post of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labor and Employment, resigned from his post this morning.
Asked whether he has resigned as Labor Minister, Gangwar replied in the affirmative. “Yes I have resigned,” he told news agency PTI.
However, he said he was not aware of what his new role in the government would be.
This will be the first reshuffle in the state cabinet by the prime minister Narendra Modi Ever since he took charge for a second term in May 2019.
Ahead of the cabinet expansion on Wednesday evening, the ministerial prospects met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.
The Prime Minister’s reshuffle is expected to bring in young faces and give representation to various social groups and sectors.
Gangwar played a key role in labor reforms as four labor codes on wages, industrial relations, social security and occupational safety, health and working conditions were passed during his tenure in Modi 2.0.
The ministry has framed the rules under the codes, while the states are yet to finalize the rules in their area.
Since labor is a concurrent subject, there is also a need for states to strengthen and notify rules under labor codes to be implemented across the country.
In May 2019, Gangwar was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Bareilly constituency of Uttar Pradesh. This was his eighth term in the lower house.
He was the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas in the 13th Lok Sabha with the additional charge of Parliamentary Affairs. Prior to this, Gangwar was the Minister of State for Science and Technology in 1999 with additional charge of Parliamentary Affairs.
Gangwar was also the chairman of the PAC (Public Accounts Committee).
Earlier, Gangwar held the charge of the Ministry of Textiles (Independent Charge). He joined as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance from July 5, 2016 and served till September 3, 2017. During his tenure he was a member of the GST Council and was instrumental in the successful implementation of GST in India.
He was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labor and Employment since 3 September 2017 in the 16th Lok Sabha.
