Chaturthi Tithi holds an important place in the Hindu calendar, and when the glory of Lord Ganesha is added, the importance doubles. Every month there are two different Chaturthi and each has its own significance. On the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, Vighnaharta Lord Ganesha is worshipped as devotees believe that doing so will remove troubles from their children’s lives.
Sankashti Chaturthi: Date and Auspicious Time
In the month of August, Sankashti Chaturthi will be on 25th August. Sankashti Chaturthi is also called Bahula or Haramba Sankashti Chaturthi. This date will start on 25th August at 4:18 pm and will end the next day i.e. 26th August at 5:13 pm. According to the Panchang, the time of moonrise on August 25 and August 26 is 8:50 pm and 9:19 pm respectively.
Sankashti Chaturthi: Significance
According to religious belief, devotees perform puja and fast on Sankashti Chaturthi for the long life, happiness and prosperity of their children. It is believed that the Vighnaharta fulfills all their wishes, especially health related problems.
Sankashti Chaturthi: Puja Vidhi
According to Hindu traditions, mothers observe a fast on this day and worship Lord Ganesha. Chanting of Ganesh Mantra is also considered auspicious. It is a tradition to wake up early in the morning to take a bath and prepare for the puja. Devotees also meditate early in the morning on this day. Offerings to Lord Ganesha should include white or red colored flowers along with Durva.
During the fast, devotees can consume only fruits or roots such as potatoes, carrots or Chinese tubers. After the fast, the main puja is performed when the moon rises. Like Sun Arghya When the moon comes out, then Arghya is offered by mixing roli, sandalwood and honey in milk. Offering Arghya to Moon is also considered very important and auspicious. The fast of Sankashti Chaturthi is considered complete only after offering Arghya.
