This is perhaps the first time that the Indian team has been announced and there is no resentment despite Sanju Samson not being in it. Yes, it has happened because there is excitement over the prospect of Samson being in the World Cup squad instead of the Asian Games, which clash with the world’s biggest cricket tournament.

The BCCI on Friday, July 14 announced the teams for the men’s and women’s competition at the 19th Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China in September. The men’s team was probably all young stars. The fans were happy that Samson’s name was not there, keeping them hopeful of seeing their favorite player play in the World Cup. Together KL Rahul Injured Samson has been roped in as the first-choice wicket-keeper in the Indian ODI squad for the West Indies series and this could be a sign of what is to come.

With Ishan Kishan being seen as a backup opener rather than an option in the middle order, Samson has a chance to cement his place in the World Cup squad not only for KL Rahul but also for Shreyas Iyer at No.4. Of whom are currently injured and out of the team.

Samson averages 66 in 11 ODIs and has been unlucky in the past not to get enough opportunities to showcase his talents and will be hoping to play some big innings to stay in the competition.
