Sanjay Manjrekar selected India’s playing XI for the second Test against England; Ravindra Jadeja out

In the first Test match between India and England, rain forced Nottingham to draw and the fifth and final day was washed out. India needed 157 runs on the fifth day with nine wickets remaining.

The two teams will now face each other in the second Test of the five-match series to be held at the Holy Lord’s in London from August 12 to 16.

Before the second Test, former batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has selected India’s XI.

The cricketer-turned-commentator has made two changes in the first Test, including the ouster of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who scored a crucial first-innings half-century to help India take the lead.

Manjrekar has included Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari in place of Jadeja and Shardul Thakur.

Jadeja did well in the first game and saved India in the second innings by scoring a half-century under pressure. His failure to take any wicket, Manjrekar says, is the reason for making way for Ashwin.

Shardul, however, took two wickets in England’s first innings and two more wickets in the second innings.

However, Manjrekar believes that Vihari will bring more stability and strength to India’s batting line-up. Furthermore, the renowned commentator conceded that he would pick Mohammad Siraj ahead of Ishnat Sharma as the former has the ability to take five wickets in a single innings.

“If Rishabh Pant comes at number 7, he can prove to be even more dangerous and can play very well with the tail-enders. I am playing Vihari because in the last Test he played, he batted for 2.5 hours to save India. I would like to bring in Ashwin, who I think was unfairly dropped in the first match. Sony Sports.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s Playing XI: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami.
