Sanctioned In 2014, Dc Office Complex Is Still Being Built | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: Even as the construction of a new deputy commissioner’s office for Kannadasanctioned in 2014, is progressing at a snail’s pace, the district has sought additional funds from the government.
Initially, the slow pace of work was due to a litigation, and at present it is due to a shortage of funds. In 2018, work to construct a 2.3 lakh sq ft three-storey building on 5.8 acres at Padil commenced. The construction was initially planned at an estimated cost of Rs 41 crore, but the cost escalated to Rs 55 crore. While the government has so far released Rs 37 crore, the work could not be completed due to a lack of funds.
While the new DC office complex will house 38 departments, the building will also have a spacious parking facility to accommodate nearly 200 cars and a canteen. In addition to a DC court hall or DC’s chamber, the building will also have a mini conference hall and offices for the MP and district minister. The project commenced in February 2018, and should have been completed before August 2019. An estimate of Rs 29 crore, to complete the project was sent to the government a few months ago.
Recently, MP Nalin Kumar Kateeldistrict minister V Sunil KumarMangaluru City North MLA Y Bharath Shetty and deputy commissioner KV Rajendra had conducted an inspection of the work. Sunil Kumar said that about 70% of the works are complete. “We will seek Rs 29 crore additional funds to complete the work. I will pursue the matter to get approval from the cabinet, for the release of additional funds. Work will be expedited soon after the release of funds,” the minister added.
