Chinmanayee Sripada talks about supporting Samantha Ruth Prabhu during the #MeToo wave. Chinmayi accused lyricist Vairamuthu and actor Radha Ravi.
Singer Chinmayi Sripada recently praised Samantha Ruth Prabhu in an interview. The noted singer, who came forward to accuse lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct in 2018 during the #MeToo movement in India, is dubbing for Samantha in Telugu films. However, Chinmayi was banned by the dubbing union after leveling MeToo allegations against its president, actor Radha Ravi. Despite the ban, Chinmayi reveals that Samantha was the one who kept giving her work.
Speaking with Film Companion, Chinmayi said, “(Samantha) has repeatedly broken every glass wall built around female actors in this country. Samantha stood by me during #MeToo. She was one of the voices of stature, if not the only, for believing in me and continuing to give me work. I even go out on a limb and say that she asked me to dub for her, even though she was all set to dub for herself.”
Samantha has not held back from showing her support to Chinmayi. In 2018, when the singer accused Radha Ravi of sexual misconduct, Samantha announced on Twitter that although they are both close friends, the actress is taking Chinmayi’s side. “Dear @23_rahul and @chinmayee I have known both of you for ten years. I don’t know two more brutally honest people. I give the most importance to this specialty of yours in our friendship. I love you with all my heart and what you say is true!! #istandwithchinmayi,” he tweeted at the time.
Meanwhile, in the present, Samantha is getting a lot of support from everyone, including Chinmayi, as she battles an autoimmune condition called myositis. Samantha opened up about her diagnosis in October last year. While she took a break from work, she returned to the sets last month to film her upcoming series Citadel.
