Varanasi: Election unopposed Bhartiya Janata PartyK Zilla Panchayat President Poonam Maurya Challenged in Varanasi Samajwadi PartyKi (SP) Chanda Yadav filed the petition in the court of District Judge Om Prakash Tripathi on Monday.

SP candidate’s lawyer Abhay Nath Yadav said that the District Election Officer rejected the nomination of Chanda Yadav on the ground that the permission of the notary lawyer who issued the affidavit for him has not been renewed.
“This ground was chosen for denial of nomination despite there being no rule in the UP Zilla Panchayat Act in this regard”, he said.
It was also mentioned that the fee for renewal of authorization of a notary counsel has already been sent to the state government through the district judge, he said, which is sufficient to clarify that the renewal application was not rejected. No nomination can be rejected on technical grounds as per Rule 10(4) of the UP Zilla Panchayat Act, the grounds taken by the District Election Officer for rejecting Chanda Yadav’s papers are insufficient.
Yadav said that while accepting the petition, the district judge court asked the UP government, district election officer and Maurya to serve notices through a special messenger.
