Salman Khan confirms his passion project, ‘Salman Talkies’ theater chain still on cards; Says ‘It was put on hold because of the pandemic’ – EXCLUSIVE! – times of India

During an interaction with the star, ETimes asked him for an update about the theater series that he was looking forward to opening it up for his fans.

“Yes, we had plans to open theaters,” Salman admitted as he explained, “we did plan to open them, hopefully, it will be sometime soon.”

Asked if the pandemic forced him to reconsider his decision, he shrugged it off, saying, “It’s still in the works. We were planning it but everything was put on hold (due to the pandemic). Slowly we will come back to it, but surely someday.”

Those hoping to see these theaters in big cities may be disappointed to hear that Salman actually plans to open it in the outskirts of cities and rural India, where people do not have access to theatres.

He tells us, “We had planned to open them in smaller towns where people did not have access to theatres. Not here in cities like Mumbai.”

For this pet project, Salman met several manufacturers, distributors and exhibitors to consolidate his plan and understand the working of the market better. It was reported that the actor would first flag off the project in Maharashtra and later expand it to other states in the next 10 years.

Mumbai Mirror reported back in 2018 that

Although the plans were in their infancy then, Salman had said, “I had a lot of plans for a theater series, but it is taking longer as I need to be very careful. There are a lot of logistical details involved so that the project doesn’t take off.”
