Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam presented the country’s first agriculture budget on Saturday. Tamil Nadu. The agriculture budget was dedicated to the farmers who opposed the agriculture laws made by the central government, the agriculture minister said. Here are the salient features of the agriculture budget.

  • The government will allocate Rs 4,508.32 crore to provide free electricity to farmers.
  • Solar powered pumpset subsidy scheme will be implemented at a cost of Rs 114.68 crore.
  • Farmers involved in vegetable cultivation will be given incentive amount at the rate of input or Rs 15,000 per hectare.
  • 29.12 crore will be allocated to increase fruit crop production.
  • Sugarcane procurement price will be increased from Rs 2,750 per tonne to Rs 2,900.
  • 40 crore will be allocated in 2020-21 for the promotion of sugarcane farmers.
  • The government will buy 61,000 tonnes of bajra from farmers in the state.
  • Tarpaulins will be procured at a cost of Rs 52 crore for the protection of paddy bags in DPC.
  • Palm jaggery will be sold in fair price shops in Tamil Nadu to increase its use among the people.
  • To increase the export of drumsticks, a Drumstick Special Export Zone will be set up in Tamil Nadu comprising seven districts.
  • 500 agricultural ponds will be built at a cost of Rs 1 lakh on 100% subsidy.
  • A special center will be set up for jackfruit Panruti in Cuddalore district
  • Steps to be taken for obtaining Geographical Indication (GiveTag Kollimali Black Pepper, Panruti Jackfruit and Ponni Rice
  • Integrated Village Agriculture Market to be set up for farmers in Nilgiris
  • Incentive given by the state government for common variety of paddy in addition to the minimum support price (MSP)SME) will be increased from Rs.50 to Rs.75 while the incentive amount for Grade A variety of paddy will be increased from Rs.100 to Rs. Rs 70.
  • To conduct research on organic farming, ‘Nammalwar Organic Farming Research Center’ will be established in the premises of TNAU named after organic farming scientist G Nammalvar.
  • A research center for turmeric will be set up in Erode district.
