Mumbai: Former India leg spinner Sairaj Bahutule is set to take over as the director of Mumbai Cricket Association‘s (MCA) BKC Indoor Academy.
“NS Cricket His name was recommended by the Reforms Committee (CIC), which was unanimously approved by the Apex Council in Thursday’s meeting. The final details of his contract will be worked out soon,” a source in MCA told TOI on Friday. Bahutule will get a remuneration of around Rs 30 lakh annually.
Before domestic legend Amol Muzumdar was roped in for the role, Bahutule was picked for the job of the head coach of the Mumbai senior team. The MCA’s CIC is headed by former India batsman and national selector Jatin Paranjpe, and includes former India players Vinod Kambli and Nilesh Kulkarni.
Apart from playing two Tests and eight ODIs, the 48-year-old Bahutule played 188 first-class matches in which he took 630 wickets @ 26.00, and scored 6176 runs @ 31.83. After his retirement, he coached Vidarbha, Kerala, Bengal (for four years) and was the coach of Gujarat for the last two seasons. He is also the spin bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals, and in 2017 worked with Australia’s young spinners cricket australiaCenter of Excellence in Brisbane.
Possibility of holding a fitness camp in Ghansoli
Meanwhile, the fitness camp of the Mumbai senior team, comprising 45 players, is likely to be held at Reliance’s stadium in Ghansoli, it has been learned. The stadium is used by Reliance’s IPL team for their camps, Mumbai Indians.
In other news, the MCA has increased the fees of senior Mumbai selectors from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. The remuneration of the Chief Selector (Salil Ankola) has been increased from Rs.6 to Rs.10 lakh.
