Objecting to the saffron attire of waiters on board the Ramayana Express, saints from Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain on Monday said it was an insult to Hinduism and threatened to stop the train in Delhi on December 12 if the dress code was not withdrawn. .

“We have written a letter to the Union Railway Minister two days back, registering our protest against the waiters serving refreshments and food in saffron-coloured Ramayana Express. Wearing saffron robes on the head like a sadhu and wearing a Rudraksh mala (necklace) is an insult to Hinduism and its saints,” Awadheshpuri, former general secretary of Ujjain Akhara Parishad, told PTI.

He said that if the saffron dress code of the waiters is not changed, the saints will stop the train at Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station.

“We will sit on the railway track. This is necessary to protect Hinduism. We in Ujjain have taken a strong stand on this issue.

The city of Ujjain, where the Shri Mahakaleshwar temple of Lord Shiva is located, organizes the Simhastha Kumbh Mela every 12 years.

The country’s first Ramayana circuit train left on 7 November from Safdarjung railway station on a 17-day journey. This train visits 15 places related to the life of Lord Rama.

Covering a distance of over 7,500 km, the train will take pilgrims to places like Ayodhya, Prayag, Nandigram, Janakpur, Chitrakoot, Sitamarhi, Nashik, Hampi and Rameswaram.

Ramayana Express is equipped with first class restaurant, library and shower cubicle.
