Sadhguru’s Mitti Bachao Andolan reaches Mumbai’s Dharavi: View

Mumbai: The idyllic youth of Dharavi invites Sadhguru on a trip to 27 countries during his brief stay in Mumbai as part of his 30,000 km solo Save Soil journey on a motorcycle. In an extraordinary program of performances, children express their gratitude to Sadhguru for risking their lives to save the soil. They perform rap, hip hop and classical dance which they have learned as part of the Dharavi Dream Project which aims to empower children through music and dance.

In a heartfelt response to the soulful show, Sadhguru shared that out of all the performances and cast he was fortunate to see during Mitti Bachao Yatra, it was a very tender moment for him to see these kids in such shows. “The country’s artistes have performed, some of them are very skilled, well-known artists, but let me tell you, it really touched my heart,” Sadhguru said.

Some children contributed to a graffiti mural in honor of the Save the soil movement, in which Sadhguru looks at a tree with the hashtag Save Soil, Sadhguru adds a loving touch, with his signature words ‘Love You’ Spray while painting.

Sadhguru later tweeted some pictures saying, “Dearest children of Dharavi, very impressed by the generosity of your performance and the sweetness of your devotion towards our motherland. May the love in your hearts refill the land of Maharashtra. Make it a reality. -SG #SaveSoil”

The visit to Dharavi came after a mesmerizing evening of magical performances and addresses at the Jio Convention Centre, which hosted the public Save the Soil event. Participated by Minister of Tourism and Environment, Government of Maharashtra Aaditya Thackeray, Soka King Machel Montano, Juhi Chawla, Meet Brothers and Khushboo Grewal, the event was attended by 10,000 people with extraordinary enthusiasm.

The minister extended the government’s full support to the movement and exchanged MoUs with Sadhguru, making Maharashtra the fifth Indian state to officially join the global movement – Save the soil.

In India, about 30% of the fertile soils in the country have already become barren and unable to yield. The primary objective of Save Soil Andolan is to urge all the countries of the world to mandate minimum 3-6% organic content in agricultural soil through immediate policy reforms. Without this minimal organic material, soil scientists have warned of the imminent death of soil, a phenomenon known as ‘soil extinction’.

At a save soil event in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Sadhguru expressed his wholehearted recognition of the vital need and value of the movement. Sadhguru presented the Prime Minister the Soil Policy Handbook, which provides practical, scientific solutions that governments can implement depending on a country’s soil type, latitudinal position and agricultural traditions.

These Indian states expressed support for the movement

Since Sadhguru’s arrival in India, the governments of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have expressed their full support for the movement and to accelerate grassroots action.

Beginning on March 21, 2022 and beginning his solo motorcycle journey covering Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, Sadhguru reached the western port city of Jamnagar in Gujarat on May 29. During the Indian leg of the journey, it has passed through 9 Indian states, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

So far this movement has touched billions, while 74 countries have agreed to work to save their nation’s soil. Since the beginning of Sadhguru’s journey across 27 countries, more than 2.7 billion people have spoken about soil, on a topic undeniably absent in public awareness.

More than 15 lakh children in India have written to the Prime Minister requesting him to take action to save the country’s soil and their collective future. More than 65,000 students from over 300 schools in over 25 districts of UP have written to the Prime Minister.
