Sad to leave the best job…, says Boris Johnson – read top quotes here

New Delhi: Scandal-hit Boris Johnson announced on Thursday (July 7, 2022) that he would step down as British prime minister after dramatically losing the support of his ministers. Following mass resignations by cabinet members, Johnson stepped down as British Prime Minister today and announced his resignation in an address to the nation from outside the Downing Street gates. He expressed his ‘regret’ at his inability to remain in office as prime minister and stressed that he was ‘extremely proud’ of his achievements in office.

After several days of fighting for his job, Johnson was let down by all but the latest in a series of scandals after some of his closest aides lost their willingness to support him.

Here are some quotes from Boris Johnson’s speech today outside Downing Street:

“In politics, no one is indispensable. I’m sorry I didn’t succeed.”

“I’m sad … to leave the best job in the world.”

“It is clearly the desire of the Parliamentary Conservative Party that that party should have a new leader, and therefore a new prime minister.”

“I will support the new leader.”

“We will continue to support Ukraine.”

Johnson thanked the British public “for the privilege you have given me”.

However, Johnson could remain in office until October when the Conservative Party meets for its annual convention to find a replacement.
