Sad scene at Congress office in Delhi as election results express disapproval by all 5 states

The Congress office in central Delhi looked deserted as counting trends on Thursday turned disappointing for the party in all the five states it contested, including Punjab where it is handing over control to the Aam Aadmi Party.

For most of the day, there were few Congress leaders present who could offer possible explanations as to what went wrong. Only a few media persons were present in the lush green grounds of the party office. As the day progressed and journalists started arriving.

Earlier in the morning, a dozen political activists led by Priyanka and Jagdish Sharma, president of a unit called the Rahul Gandhi Sena, held a small demonstration outside the party office, raising slogans over the alleged tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

He claimed that as long as there are EVMs, even Lord Vishnu cannot defeat Modi.

But that performance too came to an end in about 15 minutes.

A Congress leader present in the office told News18 on condition of anonymity that the results in Goa were surprising for the party.

Talking about Punjab, the leader said that voters never want emptiness.

“There was a void in Punjab and AAP realized it and shaped its campaign accordingly. He sought an opportunity from the voters and as the space was vacant, he took full advantage of it.

As for Uttarakhand, which the Congress was hoping to win, the leader said the “beneficiary constituency” was underrepresented by the party and perhaps it hurt it.

Congress leaders are expected to interact with the media in the day after the results are officially declared.
