Celebrating International Tiger Day is important because according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are only 3900 wild tigers present globally. The theme of this International Day is “Their existence is in our hands”. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, last year the festival was held online. However, the event was watched with great enthusiasm across the world.

As India accounts for about 70% of the global tiger population, it plays an important role in the annual festival. With the Tiger Reserve and the efforts of the Environment Department, India has successfully doubled the tiger population before the target of 2022.

earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Greeting wildlife lovers on the occasion of International Tiger Day. In a series of tweets accompanied by photographs, Modi emphasized the “commitment to ensuring safe habitats for our tigers and nurturing a tiger-friendly ecosystem”.

Modi tweeted: “On #InternationalTigerDay, congratulations to wildlife lovers, especially those passionate about tiger conservation. Home to over 70% of the tiger population globally, we reiterate our commitment to ensuring safe habitats for our tigers and nurturing a tiger-friendly ecosystem.

The aim of International Tiger Day is to spread awareness about tigers and their conservation to ensure the survival of this species. Many of us are probably aware of the existence of different types of tigers found around the world, such as Amur or Siberian Tigers, Bengal Tigers, Indochinese Tigers, Malayan Tigers, South China Tigers, Sumatran Tigers. However, Caspian, Bali, Javan Tigers—these are 3 already extinct subspecies.
