Sachin Tendulkar recalls his association with sports journalists and says it turned into a sportsman-journalist friendship over the years
Sachin Tendulkar on Friday praised the media for their role in getting athletes to perform better and work hard on their skills, stressing that praise boosts the performance of sportspersons.
“I always feel that appreciation enhances performance. If there is no appreciation then it is not the right environment for any athlete to express themselves.”

“The way you have appreciated my efforts, it has given me a lot of strength to try more. There were occasions when I faltered, I fell, but this beautiful game taught me to get up again and move on. But You provided that fuel to move forward.

“On an empty fuel tank I don’t think I would have covered the distance that I did. You played a major part in that,” he said.

The cricket icon recalled his association with sports journalists and said it turned from a sportsperson-journalist into a friendship over the years.
“From my first interview to my last, it’s been great. Over the years we also became good friends, in the beginning it was just a sportsman-journalist relationship, but then you know the personalities, you know the other side of the journalist trying to find a quote.”
The legendary batsman said that he would not regularly read what is written about him but it had no effect.
“On the very few occasions I rewatched or followed what was being written about me, once the series was done I would watch it but not the next morning or after the game because I live in the area. Wanted to have.
“But despite many journalists knowing I would not be reading the next morning, my relationship was intact,” he said.
