US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday accepted Russia’s call for an international war crimes investigation into its invasion of Ukraine and the bombings of civilians, including a maternity hospital.

Speaking in Warsaw, where she is demonstrating US support for allies on the eastern side of NATO, Harris on Wednesday expressed outrage at the maternity hospital bombings and scenes of pregnant women covered in blood.

“There absolutely has to be an investigation, and we should all be watching,” Harris said. Standing with Harris, Polish President Andrzej Duda said, “It is clear to us that the Russians in Ukraine are committing war crimes.”

Meanwhile, Germany’s foreign minister said his country had “a historic responsibility” to protect peace in the Balkans, as he drew a parallel between the bloody breakup of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s and Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The line was drawn.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Kavusoglu said a meeting between Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers was held in Turkey in a “decent manner despite difficulties”. Kavusoglu participated as a facilitator in the Russian-Ukrainian talks at the highest level since the start of the war in Ukraine. He said that he did not expect a “miracle” from the first meeting, which ended without success.
