The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine entered its 38th day on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that 3,700 people had been rescued from the heavily bombed city of Mariupol by Russian shelling and attacks. The US Defense Department says it is providing an additional $300 million in military equipment to Ukrainian forces defending the country from Russian troops. Zelensky said Russian forces were leaving behind “an absolute disaster” as they retreated from the north, including cities outside Kyiv. And he warned residents to beware of more Russian shelling and landmines. “They are mining all over the region, they are mining houses, mining equipment, even the bodies of people who have died,” he said in his video address to the nation late Friday. A Ukrainian official said at least three Russian ballistic missiles fired into the Odessa region of the Black Sea late Friday night killed at least three casualties, but gave no details. Regional leader Maksim Marchenko said the missiles were fired from the Crimean peninsula, which Russia has held since its seizure from Ukraine in 2014.
