UN chief calls for investigation into the killing of civilians in Ukraine’s Bucha

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday urged an independent investigation into the killing of civilians in Ukraine’s Bucha city near Kyiv.

“I am deeply shocked by the photos of civilians killed in Bucha, Ukraine. It is imperative that an independent investigation lead to effective accountability,” Guterres tweeted.

The Russian Defense Ministry has called it a staged operation by Ukrainian officials.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the incident a “genocide”.

When asked during an appearance on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” program whether Russia was committing genocide in Ukraine, Zelensky replied: “Actually. It’s genocide”.
