An Indian doctor has refused to leave the country amid the ongoing tension in Ukraine over Russia’s attack. He says that he does not want to leave his pets, a leopard and a leopard. This man named Girikumar Patil is currently living in a bunker with his two ‘Big Cats’ in Severodnestak, Ukraine.
Their current hiding place also falls in the disputed Donbass region, which was declared independent by Russia before invading Ukraine. So Patil is not even in Ukraine in the eyes of Russia. The area is controlled by separatists and the situation is rapidly deteriorating.
He told news agency ANI, that he tried to contact the Indian embassy, but did not get a proper response. “I called the embassy but did not get a proper response. My place is surrounded by Russians, but I am trying my best. I treat them like my children,” he said.
He adopted the jaguar from a zoo with permission from the authorities and named it Yasha. Two months ago, he brought Black Panther Sabrina to Yasha as a companion.
Patil is an Orthopedist at a local government hospital in Donbass. He went to Ukraine in 2007 to study medicine and later settled in Donbass.
Patil also has three dogs – Italian Mastiffs – and tries to raise funds for them through his YouTube channel, which has over 84,000 subscribers. Patil hails from Tanuku in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. He hopes the Indian government will allow him to take all his pets home.
