Russia Ukraine War: Russian rocket attacks on the center of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, wounded five people on Sunday (6 February), officials said.

Kharkiv’s regional governor, Oleh Sinihubov, said four people were injured when a Russian S-300 missile hit an apartment block and another was injured when a missile hit a higher education building. Local media reports said the building was the National Academy for Urban Economy, about 700 meters from the city’s central square.

Meanwhile, heavy fighting continued in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, one of four regions Russia illegally annexed last year, although its forces do not fully control the region. Donetsk governor Pavlo Kirilenko said five civilians were wounded in rocket attacks during the night in the city of Druzhkivka, and that there was also shelling in the city of Avdivka and its outskirts.

In the Black Sea port of Odessa, workers worked to connect temporary generators sent to try to restore power. The city and the surrounding region were plunged into darkness over the weekend due to a massive network failure.

Grid operator Ukrainergo said the failure involved equipment undergoing “repeated repairs” after Russia’s savage attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid, and residents should prepare themselves for longer blackouts.

As of Sunday afternoon, about 280,000 customers remained without power, Prime Minister Dennis Schimmel said.
