Russia-Ukraine LIVE: Kyiv says Russian soldiers’ death toll reaches 12,000, Biden will impose sanctions on Vladimir Putin’s oil imports, pressure on fuel costs around the world and UN reports two million refugees fleeing Ukraine Huh

Buses filled with people fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine left two beleaguered cities in safe corridors today as the war entered its 13th day.

UN officials said the country’s refugee exodus has reached two million in the midst of the biggest land war in Europe since World War II.

The Russian attack has trapped people inside besieged cities lacking food and water, thwarting previous efforts to escort civilians to safety.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who will address UK lawmakers via videolink at 5 pm today, called for the expansion of humanitarian corridors for civilians.

He said a child died of dehydration in Mariupol, a hopeless situation in the city – and again urged Western countries to provide air support.

With the offensive in its second week, Russian troops have made significant progress in southern Ukraine, but have stayed in some other areas.

Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers fortified Kyiv’s capital with hundreds of outposts and barricades designed to thwart a takeover.

Incessant rain of shells and rockets devastated other major population centers, including the Kyiv suburb of Bucha, where the mayor reported heavy artillery fire.
