New Delhi: A special flight carrying the Indian students stranded in Ukraine arrived at the Delhi airport this evening.
“We came through Romania and the people there prepared home-cooked meals for us. Until we left Lviv, the situation was normal but it seemed quite uncertain. We want to thank the Government of India for bringing us home safely,” said one of the students, who returned from Ukraine, ANI reported.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said every student is being brought back, adding Prime Minister Narendra Modi is himself monitoring the situation.
“We have sent teams to neighboring nations of Ukraine. The MEA has also made a control room regarding the ongoing situation,” said Puri, ANI reported.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar said the fourth Operation Ganga flight with the Indian evacuees from Ukraine has set off from Bucharest for New Delhi.
Jaishankar said 198 Indian nationals are coming back to India.
“Fourth #OperationGanga flight is wheels up from Bucharest. 198 Indian nationals are coming back to Delhi,” he tweeted.
Earlier this morning, the third flight of Operation Ganga with 240 Indian nationals from Budapest landed in New Delhi.
The Ukrainian airspace has been closed for civil aircraft operations following the country’s ongoing tensions with Russia.
The Indian evacuation flights are, therefore, operating out of Romanian capital Bucharest and Hungarian capital Budapest.
The Central government has been making all efforts to bring home the Indians stranded in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Modi has said that his government will do whatever possible to bring back all the Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine.
