Russia-Ukraine WarAfter a brief lull, Russia launched a drone attack on Ukraine’s capital Kiev for the first time in 12 days, according to officials. Serhiy Popko, head of the Kiev city administration, said Ukrainian forces intercepted and shot down all the exploding drones.

One person was injured by falling debris after a drone was destroyed, according to Ruslan Kravchenko, the regional governor of Kiev, reports the AP. Ukraine’s air force said eight Iranian-made Martyr drones and three Kalibr cruise missiles were launched by Russia.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy was wounded in overnight shelling in Ukraine’s southern Kherson province, according to Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, a spokesman for the province’s Ukrainian administration. “The child is hospitalised, there is no threat to his life,” he added.

At least four people were wounded in the shelling in the capital of Kherson province. At least 46 combat clashes took place in the cities of Bakhmut, Marinka and Lyman in Ukraine’s Donetsk province.

Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Eastern Group of Forces, claimed that Ukrainian forces were advancing amid a “massive offensive” in various areas of Bakhmut. As of Sunday, Russia carried out 27 airstrikes and one missile strike, while 80 rocket launcher attacks targeted several areas.

The relative calm among Russian forces comes nearly a week after mercenaries from the Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, staged a short-lived uprising against the leadership led by Vladimir Putin by marching on the city of Rostov-on-Don.

Subsequently, the head of the private paramilitary group announced a halt to its campaign against Putin after signing an apparent agreement mediated by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
