Britain’s Defense Ministry assessed in an intelligence update Monday morning that Russia is building an “elite” air force group for ground-attack missions in Ukraine.
The UK Ministry of Defense said the “Storm” unit is likely to include “at least one squadron of Su-24 Fencer and Sukhoi-34 Fullback fighter-bombers and one squadron of attack helicopters.”
The types of aircraft suggest that the composition of the unit indicates that its primary role will be a ground attack.
The ministry said the creation of the unit reflects how the Kremlin views the performance of its regular squadrons in Ukraine.
