Punjab Police has arrested a 30-year-old woman from Patiala district of the state for duping at least eight men on the pretext of marriage. The police arrested the woman and her three accomplices who were robbing people on the pretext of marriage and busted the gang.

A Patiala police officer said, “The woman has confessed to having married eight people in the last four years and ran away with jewelry and cash from home within a week of the marriage.”

The woman was taken for a medical test before being produced in court, where she tested positive for HIV/AIDS. The police then contacted all the eight victims and asked them to get tested for HIV/AIDS.

If the target man was found to be wealthy and lived in a luxurious house, the accused woman would have extended her stay after marriage for another 10-15 days. She then started threatening her husband and in-laws to file a dowry case. If her in-laws don’t heed her warning, she will rob the family with the help of her gang members by luring the family.

“She would have disappeared from the city after extorting a hefty amount from her victims. We had inputs that a 30-year-old woman wooed divorced or middle-aged men for love and cheated on them after marrying them. Based on the inputs, we have detained the woman who had blown beans during interrogation,” the officer said.
