Chandigarh/Ambala: Two athletes from Haryana created history in Tokyo Olympics by winning gold and bronze for India, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar told reporters. Neeraj Chopra’s match announced cash prizes of Rs 6 crore and Rs 2.5 crore for the gold and bronze medalists respectively. Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sandeep Singh was also present on the occasion.
While Neeraj won the historic gold medal in men’s javelin throw, Bajrang Punia of Jhajjar district again won the bronze medal in freestyle wrestling by registering a historic 8-0 win.
“In addition to a cash reward of Rs 6 crore, the state government has decided to offer Neeraj the position of Head of Excellence for Athletics to be built at Panchkula,” Khattar announced. He said that the government will also be given to Bajrang. Jobs as per the provision made in the Sports Policy of the State.
He further announced that a plot would also be provided to both Neeraj and Bajrang. HSVP at discounted rates.
CM Khattar said, “To encourage young and budding players of Khudan village of Bajrang in Jhajjar district, a wrestling indoor stadium with world class facilities will be constructed by the state government.”
Earlier, Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij had tweeted, “Congratulations to javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra for creating history by winning the first #gold medal for India in #Tokyo2020; Throwing 87.58 meters in the first attempt. Haryana government will give Rs. 6 crores, a plot as service and incentive. Later, Vij told reporters that Neeraj has created history by winning the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha member Deepender Singh Hooda, who is also the Congress President Haryana Wrestling FederationThe Haryana government on Saturday demanded that Neeraj be given additional superintendent of police (ASP) and wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who won silver medals and Bajrang Punia, who won bronze medals in Tokyo Olympics, be given the post of deputy SP.
Dipendra said, “All the three medal winners from Haryana are sons of farmers and their families have fought hard to bring their children to this level so that they can bring laurels to the country. When Manipur government can appoint Mirabai Chanu. DSPWhy can’t the Haryana government appoint its medal winners as ASP and DSP? All the sportspersons of Haryana participating in the Olympics should be awarded with a prize money of at least Rs 50 lakh.
