Rs 5 crore currency notes used to decorate Kanyaka Parameshwari temple in Nellore

Hyderabad: A Kanyaka Parameshwari temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore is decorated with origami flowers made of currency notes worth over Rs 5 crore on the occasion of Dussehra.

Different forms of the Goddess are worshiped in this temple at different times of the year. She is dressed as the goddess of wealth Dhanalakshmi and is worshiped during the nine-day Navratri-Dussehra celebrations.

More than 100 volunteers worked long hours to decorate the temple with currency notes of total denomination of Rs 5 crore and Rs 16 lakh. Notes of Rs 2,000, Rs 500, Rs 200, Rs 100, Rs 50 and Rs 10 have been used for decoration.

The old Kanyaka Parameshwari temple was renovated four years ago at a cost of Rs 11 crore. Since then, Navratri Dussehra celebrations are held grandly every year.

This year also a lot of pomp and show have been planned and the celebrations are going on with great enthusiasm.

Mukkala Dwarkanath, chairman of the Nellore Urban Development Authority, is in charge of the events. “7 kilograms of gold and 60 kilograms of silver are used to adorn the goddess,” he said.

While in many places deities are worshiped with notes, people in Nellore claim that it is unusual to decorate the temple with notes of such a high amount.

According to reports, in 2020, a Kanyaka Parameshwari temple in Telangana was decorated with origami flowers made of currency notes worth over Rs 1 crore as part of the Dussehra festival.

Notes of different colors worth Rs 1,11,11,111 were used to make garlands and bouquets to dress the goddess at the Vasavi Kanyaka Parameshwari temple in Gadwal, Telangana.
