The Royal Enfield 650 twins, i.e. Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 haven’t been updated in a pretty long time, apart from the addition of new paint schemes now and then. However, it looks like the two bikes could be updated pretty soon, or at least be on the receiving end of a new variant with some noteworthy changes.
A test mule of what is possibly an updated version of the Continental GT 650 has been spied on test, running on black-coloured alloy wheels. What’s more, this particular bike features a new circular tail lamp, as seen on the new Hunter 350. As of now, Royal Enfield offers the 650 twins with wire-spoked wheels.
While only the Continental GT 650 has been spotted this time around, similar changes are expected to be made to the Interceptor 650 as well. Moreover, the alloy wheels could result in the introduction of tubeless tyres for both the motorcycles. It is yet to be seen if the new Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 will come equipped with a new instrument cluster as well as the Tripper Navigation system as seen on the latest RE bikes.
No changes are expected to be made to the powertrain though. The Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 are currently offered with a 648 cc, air-cooled parallel twin engine that puts out 47 hp of maximum power and 52 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
