ros: NVIDIA ties up with Open Robotics to boost AI capabilities in ROS 2 – Times of India

NVIDIA And Open Robotics has made an agreement to promote rose 2 on display nvidia jetson Edge till Platform and GPU-based systems. The partnership aims to reduce development time and improve performance for developers looking to incorporate computer vision and AI/machine learning functionality into their ROS-based applications.
Open Robotics ROS 2 is said to help enable efficient management of data flow and shared memory across GPUs and other processors on the NVIDIA Jetson Edge AI platform. This will significantly improve the performance of applications that have to process high-bandwidth data from sensors such as cameras and lidars in real time.
In addition, the two companies are working to enable seamless simulation interoperability between Open Robotics’ Ignition Gazebo and the NVIDIA Isaac SIM on the Omniverse. Isaac Sim already supports ROS 1 and 2 out-of-the-box and has an ecosystem of 3D content with connections to applications such as Blender and Unreal Engine 4.
With the two simulators connected, ROS developers can move their robots and environments between the Ignition Gazebo and the Isaac Sim to run large-scale simulations. They can also leverage the features of each simulator to generate synthetic data for training and testing AI models.
Brian Gerkey, CEO of Open Robotics, said, “As more and more ROS developers take advantage of hardware platforms that have additional computation capabilities designed to offload the host CPUs, ROS is making it easier to efficiently take advantage of these advanced hardware resources.” developing for.”
“Working with an accelerated computing leader like NVIDIA and its vast experience in AI and robotics innovation will bring significant benefits to the entire ROS community,” he added.
The software as a result of this collaboration is expected to be released in the spring of 2022.
NVIDIA is ready for ROS World on October 21 and 22. The company plans to release new GeMs, including several DNNs, for Jetson developers.
