New Delhi: The journey of defending champions Mumbai Indians has come to an end in Phase 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Blue Brigade registered a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad but could not complete the impossible task of winning by 171 runs.
Mumbai Indians have not reached the playoffs after 2018. Mumbai’s performance in the UAE leg was very disappointing and the team could win only three matches. After IPL 2021 is out, Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma has posted a special message to encourage his teammates.
Rohit Sharma wrote on his Twitter, “A season full of ups and downs and learnings. But these 14 matches will not take away the glory this incredible group has achieved in the last 2-3 seasons. Mumbai batsmen put all their might to make their biggest, best score ever in IPL history. Mumbai scored 235/9 on the back of stormy innings of Ishan Kishan (84) and Suryakumar Yadav (82). However, to make it to the last four and make it to the playoffs, Mumbai had to bowl out Hyderabad for just 65 runs.
Batting first, Ishan Kishan hit a slew of fours and sixes to score his half-century in just 16 balls and helped Mumbai cross the 100-run mark in just 8 overs. Suryakumar Yadav also wreaked havoc in the death overs, scoring 82 runs in just 40 balls.
